release by the UCI

November 04, 2014 – The French ski resort of Méribel has received a vote of confidence from riders, team managers, journalists, sponsors and UCI staff in the annual “best event” awards.  As well as topping the votes for the best downhill event of this year’s UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano, Méribel also placed 2nd in the vote for best cross-country and eliminator events. The honours come one year after the same venue was voted “best event” of the 2013 UCI Trials World Cup.

It was the first year on the Mountain Bike World Cup calendar for the family ski resort nestled at 1459m altitude in the Tarentaise Valley. Méribel hosted the last of nine rounds on August 23rd and 24th with a triple event: downhill (DHI), Olympic cross-country (XCO) and cross-country eliminator (XCE).

Nove Mesto, in the Czech Republic, was voted best event for XCO and XCE. The organisers of the third round of the series, which was held on May 24th and 25th, have been part of the World Cup for several years and in 2016 will host the UCI World Championships for XCO and XCE.

Third place for all three formats went to the ever-popular destination of Mont-Sainte-Anne, in Canada. It was the 24th time that the Canadian hosts organised a UCI World Cup or World Championships.

Trials
The fifth and final round of the 2014 UCI Trials World Cup, which was held in Antwerp, Belgium, has been voted best event of the series.

Four-times World Champion, Belgium’s own Kenny Belaey, is a driving force behind the organisation of the Antwerp event, which received praise for its amazing atmosphere and spectacular location. Voters included the top athletes of the UCI Trials World Cup, UCI staff and media representatives.

The market square in front of the famous Antwerp City Council building provided a great atmosphere during the competitions. The athletes performed under the watchful eye of the brave Roman soldier Silvius Brabo whose sculpture dominates the square.

Antwerp returns to the UCI Trials World Cup calendar in 2015, once again hosting the final round in September.

The winner will receive the trophy during the organiser’s seminar which will take place at the UCI headquarters in Aigle, Switzerland.

BMX
The fourth round of the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, which was held in Santiago del Estero (ARG), has been voted “best event” of the series.

Santiago del Estero has been praised by riders, the UCI BMX Commission, sponsors, the UCI, GSX Events and media representatives. The evaluation was based on five criteria: event promotion, organisation, the race and track, venue and atmosphere. The comments submitted by our jury members, which included many words such as « best », « great » and « awesome », served to put Santiago del Estero at the top when compared to the all the other high-quality events in the series.

Santiago del Estero receives the winning vote in just its second year on the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup calendar. In 2015 it will return for a third year, again in September.

The winners will receive their trophy in February during a seminar for organisers of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The seminar will be organised at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland.
