April 1, 2008 – In a stunning reversal of positions WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) and the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) held marathon sessions over the weekend that resulted in both entities merging to create a new world governing body for cycling, WADUCI, that incorporates all facets of the sport. UCI President Pat McQaid, former UCI President Hein Verbruggen, and former WADA president Dick Pound have ended their controversial dialogue and legal battles and will head up the new organization forming a new alliance with an aim to bring cycling back to its days of glory. “The fighting is over,” said McQuaid, “WADUCI is the new way ahead.”
We have yet to hear from Tour de France owners ASO (Amaury Sports Organization) but rumours claim that they will join forces with the new association and end all in-fighting to usher in a new era of cycling. Pro riders are ecstatic with the development and look forward to more racing and less politics – more news as it unfolds.
