UCI and ProTour Organizers Reach an Agreement

March 5, 2007 (Brussels, Belgium) — According to a UCI press release we just received (in French – an English version will be available shortly), at a meeting today in Brussels, the UCI and the major ProTour organizers – ASO, RCS, and Unipublic – reached an agreement that will last until October 31, 2007, thus covering the entire 2007 season. A mechanism will also be sought for a longer term solution, bringing in interested third parties. The International Professional Cycling Teams (IPCT) also sat in on today’s meeting.

For this period, only 18 teams are confirmed in races organized by ASO, RCS and Unipublic as listed below:

– AG2R – Prevoyance
– Bouygues Telecom
– Caisse d’Epargne
– Cofidis
– Lampre Fondital
– Liquigas
– Predictor-Lotto
– Quick Step-Innergetic
– Rabobank
– Credit Agricole
– Discovery Channel
– Euskaltel-Euskadi
– Francaise Des Jeux
– Gerolsteiner
– Saunier Duval-Prodir
– Team CSC
– Milram
– Team T-Mobile

The races (owned by ASO, RCS, and Unipublic) that these 18 teams are confirmed for are:

– Paris-Nice
– Tirreno Adriatico
– Milan-San Remo
– Paris-Roubaix
– Fleche Wallonne
– Liege-Bastogne-Liege
– Giro d’Italia
– Tour De France
– Vuelta A España

– Tour De Lombardie

The agreement still leaves things up in the air regarding the Astana and Unibet teams, but the race organizers agree to look positively at including these two teams as “wildcards” in some races.
