October 13, 2010 (Toronto, ON) – My name is Ryan Seeto and I am currently a Masters student in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of Toronto. I am currently recruiting cyclists to test a new machine that measures heart function and I would appreciate if you could post it on your website or forward this email to any potentially interested participants.
Participants must be:
– men aged 18-40 with no previous health risks
– experience in cycling (at least 12 hours/month)
– do not have a pacemaker, a device used to regulate the beating of the heart
– successfully complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire
Participants of this study will:
– gain knowledge about their aerobic fitness through a VO2max test
– have body measurements including body fat percentage
The study will require individuals to perform three trials of an exercise test lasting approximately 20 minutes with increasing intensity (VO2max) with appropriate rest in between trials. The Physioflow Enduro is a portable machine used to measure the function of the heart (specifically, the amount of blood pumped by the heart).
Data is obtained by the Physioflow Enduro through six electrodes placed on the skin’s surface. Participation in this study will require approximately a three hour commitment over two days with one hour of total cycling.
The purpose of this study is to determine if measures of heart function (specifically, the amount of blood pumped by the heart) recorded by the Physioflow Enduro during submaximal and maximal exercise are the same in repeated trials.
If you have any questions pertaining to the study, feel free to email me at ryan.seeto@utoronto.ca.
Sincerely,
Ryan Seeto
