September 30, 2009 (Guelph, ON) – The True North Cyclo-Cross and Singlespeed Cyclo-Cross Nationals took place this past Saturday in Guelph, Ontario, Canada with excellent racing and fun times happening at two different venues. The day started with the True North Cyclo-Cross held at South End Community park in Guelph.

In the Junior Men’s race Jordan Donner (Team Spoke O’Motion) walked away with the win. Peter Mogg (The Hub Race Team) continued his battle with Andrew Croutch (True North Cycles) and snuck out the victory once more in the Master 1 Men’s field. In the Elite Women’s race Briana Illingworth (Sweet Pete’s) rode to victory over Rachel Mirvish (HB Cycling Club). Mark Batty (Planet Energy) took the win over a hard charging Erik Box (GARNEAU-CLUB CHAUSSURES-OGILVY) in the Elite Men’s Race

After all the serious and official racing had wrapped up; racers reconvened at the True North headquarters for pulled pork BBQ, beverages courtesy of sponsor F&M Brewery and live music performed by ‘The Monster Show’.

At 6pm 27 racers rolled out on a parade lap of the course before readying their bikes for the Le mans start. It was a fast start as Rodd Heino (Tall Tree Cycles) led out the race and in doing so took the first lap Stonehammer Pilsner beer prime. For the competitors intent on victory, the True North Cycles private cross course served up numerous challenges and for those intent on fun, the many spectators on hand made sure hydration needs were met as the riders stopped for numerous feeds.
After many laps and several beverages, one man and one woman walked away National Champions. In the Women’s race Jennie Jackson (True North Cycles) emerged the winner after a costume malfunction temporarily sidelined early leader Briana Illingworth (Sweet Pete’s) In the men’s race, once again disaster decided the outcome as Ted Ingram (Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny’s) appeared to be riding away with the win only to break his crank in two with one lap to go. Ingram tried in vain to run/skateboard his bike in, only to be passed by Paul Cooney (True North Cycles) in the last lap.

After the race, the winners received Custom Pink and Blue Canadian Cowbells, with other prizes coming courtesy of sponsors Schwalbe, Giro, True North Cycles and all around good guy Ron Stadnik. Taking home the grand prize of the evening; a custom True North Frame outfitted with Octto Components was Zach Steinman of Waterloo.

Following the awards, prizes and music, the True North Cycles Box Bike Time Trials were held with Team True North, comprised of Sean Sinclair and Scott Kelly narrowly defeating the Tall Tree Cycles Team of Rodd Heino and Matt Surch.
