November 9, 2005 – Following the path of the ancient Mayans more than one and a half thousand years ago, Temple to Temple is the world’s first bike race and epic tour linking the great temples of Lubaantun to Caracol, Belize. In association with the luxurious Placencia Hotel on the Caribbean Sea, we have plotted a seven day, 750 kilometre route that takes participants on and off the pavement through rugged mountains, jungles, caves, local villages, and, of course, Mayan Temple ruins! Take this fully supported epic tour at your own speed, as everyone from the professional to beginner will enjoy this event.
Every night along the route, riders and support staff will camp (or upgrade to luxurious lodging) in the wilderness, at the foot of Mayan ruins, or at jungle lodges. The experience isn’t all about the bike as participants will be able to explore ruins, swim through tropical waterfalls, and get some rest and relaxation on some of the world’s finest beaches. The registration fee includes all food, vehicle event support, accommodations and also includes an all-inclusive stay at The Placencia Hotel before and after the race (January 28th, 2006, and February 4, 2005), where closing ceremonies will be held.
Temple To Temple is brought to you by the co-creator of the World’s longest bicycle race Tour d’Afrique. Major news outlets from the New York Times, Velonews, Velo Mag, Outdoor Adventurer, Bike Magazine, the Globe and Mail and Outpost magazine, will cover the event.
