October 14, 2012 (Fort Collins, CO) – Racing under glorious sunny skies and in dry conditions, Katie Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) and Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) rode to repeat victories at the second day of the Trek USGP of Cyclocross p/b Greenware® and WD-40 Bike SmartWool Cup.
In the Master’s 35+ Race Mark Savery (Trek Cyclocross Collective) won in dominating fashion, taking the early lead and never looking back. With his win Savery tightened his grip on the Series Overall Title. Behind him teammates Russell Stevenson and Brandon Dwight (Boulder Cycle Sport) gave furious chase but were never able to fully close the gap.
In the Junior 17/18 race Tyler Schwartz retained the Series. The event was won by Ian McPherson (Boulder Jr. Cycling) with Maxx Chance, 2nd (Boulder Jr. Cycling) and Garrett Gerchar (Boulder Jr. Cycling)
In the 45+ category, Mark Legg Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) dominated again, winning in convincing style ahead of Jeff Winkler (FasCat Coaching) and Jon Cariveau (Moots). Compton will take a huge lead into Louisville for the next stop on the Series.
The women’s elite race was once again dominated by Katie Compton – who was once again pursued aggressively by Fort Collin’s hometown Olympic hero Georgia Gould (Luna). Behind Gould, Julie Krasniak (Rapha-Focus) stayed ahead of a charging Katie Antonneau (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld.com) to hold on to third.
The Elite Men’s race was an ever-changing affair with Danny Summerhill (Garmin Chipotle) spending a lot of time at the front of the race. But Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) took over the lead as his teammate Christopher Jones claimed 2nd with Canada’s Geoff Kabush (SCOTT-3Rox Racing) a close 3rd as Summerhill settled for 4th.
