October 30, 2008 – Have you ever said “next year I’ll do TransRockies”? We hear it all the time. We understand, you need time to train, to find a way to tell (ask) your spouse, get the time off work, and basically get your act together to sign up! It’s easy to put it off.
We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that next year is NOW! We’ve been taking registrations for 2009 TransRockies for several months now and, while space is still available, it’s going quickly. There’s no time like the present to start the wheels in motion for a great spring and summer of training and preparation culminating in the experience of a lifetime – TransRockies.

Save $800! Falling Canadian Dollar Means Great Deals for US and EU residents!
For those of you from south of the 49th parallel looking for a solid economic reason to sign up for TransRockies, look no further. As world commodity prices fall, so has the Canadian Dollar (we like to call it the loonie – you’ll understand why when you get here). After hovering around par for most of the last year, the loonie’s slide means that the US Dollar is now worth about $1.29 Canadian. What does this mean for you? It could mean a savings of over $800 per person on a TransRockies team entry!
Although not as dramatic, the Euro has also strengthened against the loonie over the past year. It’s worth about 20% more than a year ago, which could be over $600 on a TransRockies team entry. For roughly $200 US per day, per rider, you can be part of one of the World’s great adventures and be fully supported through seven epic days of riding.
The great thing about the lower dollar is that it applies to every aspect of your trip: Hotel rooms if you’re staying the night before and after the event. RV rental if you’d prefer not to sleep in a tent. Airline flights to Calgary thanks to the lower Canadian dollar and the end of fuel surcharges within North America.
We here at TransRockies are no experts in future exchange rates, but we do know that right now, anyone paying in Euros or US Dollars to sign up for TransRockies will get the adventure of a lifetime at a significantly reduced price from past years.
We can’t tell you if the Canadian dollar will continue to fall, or start to climb again. Either way, we process your payment in Canadian Dollars at the current exchange rate for the day. To check the latest exchange rates, visit www.xe.com.

“Best Ever” Ratings for TR ’08 Food
We’ve wrapped up our annual participant survey from TransRockies 2008. This has become an important endeavor for us each year since 2005. Our participants generously take the time to answer a wide variety of questions about the past event and the detailed results help us focus our efforts to measurably improve the TransRockies experience each and every year.
After the 2007 event, we set out to improve the food at TransRockies 2008. We’re pleased to say that, according to our participants, it was mission accomplished! Food ratings were the highest we have ever recorded, with an overall average rating of 6.12 out of 7. Our previous best rating for food was 5.27 out of 7, in 2006. Ratings were consistently improved over all prior years in the areas of Quantity, Quality and Taste, and Short Line-Ups.
A big thank you to our main caterer Anne Riches of Invermere, and her incredible staff. Also thanks for CP Catering of Fernie for the final banquet, Panorama Mountain Village for catering the first breakfast, and our Nutritionist Melissa Spooner for her assistance in designing menus for the week. We know there’s always room for improvement, so we’ll be working closely with our team again over the winter to put together a great spread for next year!
Of course TransRockies is about more than just food. All other areas of the event scored well, from course to control stations, toilets to timing, and the overall satisfaction rating averaged 6.04 out of 7. We have, however, identified some key areas where we will focus our attention to again improve TransRockies for 2009.
