TransRockies Challenge 2003 Registrations Now Accepted

Calgary, Alberta (Nov. 4, 2002) – Registrations are now being accepted at www.transrockies.com for the 2nd annual TransRockies Challenge, the world's ultimate adventure mountain bike race, Aug. 10 – 16, 2003. A maximum of 350 two-person amateur and pro teams from around the world will traverse 600 km (373 miles) of the Canadian Rockies over the seven day event.

“Last summer's first TransRockies Challenge proved to be the most adventurous mountain bike race in the world,” said race organizer Chester Fabricius. “The event attracted 131 participants and generated more than 140 hours of television coverage around the world so we expect the 2003 event to fill up quickly.”

The 2003 TransRockies Challenge offers four categories: open women, open men, mixed and masters (combined age of both riders exceed 80). The minimum age for participation is 18.

The registration fee of $3,200 CDN per team includes a complete set of route maps and road book, breakfast and dinner at each stage, tent village accommodation, luggage and bike box transfers to each stage, energy bars and drinks at all control points, a TransRockies sport bag and T-shirt as well as daily bike service (cost of parts not included).

Stages will start at 8:00 a.m. daily and riders are expected to finish by 6:00 p.m. each day. Winning teams will share $20,000 CDN in prize money.

The TransRockies Challenge is based on the successful TransAlp Challenge which annually attracts more than 6,000 applications for the 350 starting spots.
