Track Worlds 2003 Relocated

May 5, 2003 – Due to the situation in China, the International Cycling Union, in agreement with the National Federation of this country, has decided to relocate the 2003 World Track Championships which were to take place in Shenzhen from July 30th to August 3rd.

The UCI wishes to express appreciation to the organizers of Shenzhen, as well as to the Chinese National Cycling Federation, for the efforts fulfilled with a lot of enthusiasm and skill. The UCI also wishes to confirm that Track World Championships will most certainly take place in China before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, probably in 2007.

As for the choice of a city for the organization of the Track World Championships 2003, the UCI is currently evaluating the spontaneous candidatures received in the last few days, which proves the great interest caused by this event.

The option of a European location has already been decided due to short deadlines for organizers. The UCI will announce the appointment of the site of the 2003 World Track Championships in two weeks time.
