August 22, 2009 (Mount Nebo, UT) – Stage 3 of the 2009 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah returned to the Miller Motor Sports park for a second year. The individual time trial held over a 14.46-kilometer course offered nowhere for the riders to hide. The French refer to the time trial as the race of truth: just the rider, his bicycle and the clock.

The stage was won by Tom Zirbel (Bissell) in a time of 17 minutes flat. At 6’4″ and 190 pounds Zirbel was not with the leaders over yesterday’s climbs, and as a result was able to take an early start time as the riders started in reverse order of their overall standings. As the 54th of 140 starters, Zirbel had a long wait to see if his time would hold. The time withstood the assault from some of the best time trialists in the world.

BMC once again asserted themselves as the team to beat, placing three riders in the top ten. Ian McKisseck (BMC) placed second at 14″ back, followed by prologue winner Brent Bookwalter (BMC) at 16″ off of the winning time.

The top three overall experienced only a small change with last year’s overall winner Jeff Louder (BMC), who conceded 2″ to current 2nd place Darren Lill (Team Type 1) and race leader Fransisco Mancebo (Rock Racing).
