August 19, 2009 (Salt Lake City, UT) – David Veilleux (Can) Kelly Benefit Strategies placed 3rd behind winner and new race leader Francisco Mancebo Perez (Rock Racing) with Oscar Sevilla (Rock Racing) in second on Stage 1 from Ogden to Salt Lake City, 137km.

“There were two important climbs today,” said Veilleux in a Sportcom interview. “After the first climb the peloton regrouped and by the second climb I wanted to make sure I was with the leaders and I succeeded. At the top there were about thirty riders and on the descent Mancebo and Sevilla escaped and wouldn’t be caught. I felt good and knew I could do well in a sprint finish – I’m happy with my day,” added the 21-year-old rider now in 7th overall.
