May 4, 2007 (Silver City, New Mexico) — Columbian Hernan Muñoz (P&S-Halcones) took the Stage 2 road race win yesterday ahead of race leader Nathan O’Neill of Health Net. While Muñoz is relatively unknown on the NRC circuit, O’Neill’s performance is a kind of celebration of his return to GC form. American Chris Baldwin (Toyota United) is now second on the GC, while Ryder Hesjedal (Health Net) is the top Canadian in 5th.

In the women’s race, Redland’s stage winner Mara Abbott (Webcor) continued her winning ways with a dominant performance in the 117.5km women’s race. Abbot finished more than a minute ahead of Cheerwine’s Brooke Ourada, while race leader Rachel Heal lost her jersey to her teammate. Anne Samplonius (Expresscopy.com) Leigh Hobson (Cheerwine) and Betina Hold (Cheerwine) all finished in the top ten in the stage, while Symmetrics rider Leah Golstein placed 11th. All four riders are contenders in the top ten in the general classification.
