According to Barb Zimich it’s been difficult to get through to Pakistan, but “the riders are being looked after really well and have noted how friendly everyone there is (although they are being guarded by an armed guard), and they’re enjoying the hot sunny weather.”
Here’s a report from the Daily Times in Pakistan “¦ “New Zealand cyclist Robin Read maintained his stronghold in the 13th Tour de Pakistan International Cycle Race by winning the fourth stage from Sukkar to Rahim Yar Khan on Wednesday. Read completed the 178km route in 4 hours, 39 minutes and 32 seconds and emerged as one of the favourites to go all the way to the top, said a spokesman for the organisers of the race. On May 4, the first day of the race, Reid won the 153km first stage from Karachi to Hyderabad while his countryman Justin Kerr finished second. Read was followed at close range by Pakistan Army’s Ghulam Abbas who finished second. Larry Zimich of Canada, who had maintained a near constant run in the second and third stages by securing third and fourth positions, finished third clocking 4 hours, 40 minutes and 45 seconds.
