September 03, 2015 (Grande Prairie, AB) – In what came down to a game of centimetres, the American-based Trek Factory Racing team defeated Australia’s Orica-GreenEDGE team by 0.74 seconds in the 19.6-kilometre race against the clock. Trek Factory not only won the day’s stage but placed Bauke Mollema of The Netherlands into the leader’s jersey.

“Not many people were picking us to win the stage today because Orica-GreenEDGE has such a strong time trial team here,” said Mollema. “But we will gladly take the leader’s jersey. It is a good prize for us.”

Mollema placed 7th overall in this year’s Tour de France and is very strong rider. Orica-GreenEDGE features a pair of Canadians, Christian Meier and nine-time Canadian National Champion Svein Tuft. Tuft said it was definitely “disappointing” to get so close and not pull out the win. But they have bigger ambitions to capture the overall title and perhaps win a few stages.

Trek Factory Racing will try to defend the leader’s jersey during today’s windy, rainy road race around the County of Grande Prairie which features two climbs on highway 666 and intermediate sprints at BeaverLodge and the new museum.
