July 27, 2003 (White Rock, BC) – Australia's Ben Brooks (Jelly Belly/Surisban Clothing) took on the men's pack today and won! Brooks was part of a six-man break that took off early on in the race. Within that same lap, Prime Alliance's Svein Tuft attacked the break and managed to stay off the front for over four laps before he was caught by Brooks and the only other rider to remain in the break, Alex Lavallee (Atlas Cold/Ital Pasta).

Tuft blew up on one of the hills and Lavallee and Brooks jumped. As Tuft was being reeled in by the pack, his teammate, Danny Pate attacked the main group and jumped up to the break. Now it was Lavallee's turn to experience lactic acid in his legs when Pate and Brooks lunged forward. Dropping the Atlas Cold/Ital Pasta rider, the duo charged ahead to maintain their lead of over two minutes on the pack.

The pace slowed down considerably during the last lap while Brooks and Pate played mind games and saved themselves for the sprint. Going around the last turn into the finish stretch, Brooks was in the lead. Pate was hard on his tail but blew with about fifty metres to go. Brooks took the win. Lavallee, caught between the pack and the break was third.

The men's omnium went to Team Health Net's Gord Fraser – who won the Gastown criterium and consistently had the best results all week, and the most points! Andrew Pinfold (Atlas Cold/Italpasta) and Tyler Farrar (Jelly Belly) took second and third positions on the podium.
