July 27, 2002 (Durette-Macon, France) – Lance Armstrong has put all rumours
to rest
of his time trial dominance by winning today’s 50km time trial in just over
an hour. He crushed TT specialists like Raimondas Rumsas (Lampre Daikin ),
who finished 2nd; as well as Laszlo Bodrogi (Mapei-Quick Step) who
was 3rd; and David Millar (Cofidis) who finished fourth.
Tyler Hamilton
(CSC-Tiscali) had a solid ride to finish just outside of the top ten in
11th, and Levi Leipheimer finished 14th. Bobby Julich (Telekom) who has had
a relatively quiet Tour put in a good ride, finishing 19th.
With this TT victory for Armstrong, the Tour is all but over. Now all that
remains is a ceremonial (albeit quick) jaunt to and around the streets of
Paris. The race for the Green Jersey is still tight and certainly will come
to the final sprint to be decied between Robbie McEwan (Lotto) and Erik
Zabel (Telekom.)
