July 28, 2008 (Val-d’Or, QC) – Charlie Avis (USA) had the best time (21 minutes 9 seconds) at the individual time trials this morning. The USA National Team has been well represented in the standings thus far – its five riders have claimed spots in the top 13 of each event.

Second place in the ITT went to Quebec’s David Boily, who clocked a time of 21 minutes 17 seconds at the finish line. American Ian Boswell of the US team Baraboo Sharks at 21 minutes 22 seconds was the third competitor to mount the podium today.

The team from France has managed to maintain possession of the brown jersey with Arnaud Jouffroy’s slight point advantage over Avis. The American, however, succeeded in nicking the blue jersey thanks to his performance in today’s time trials. Arnaud Demare of France was able to hang onto the Tour’s orange point leader jersey.

This morning’s ITT was run on the streets of Val-d’Or, having started on the underground ramp of La Cité de l’Or, a steep entrance to a former gold mine. Today’s second stage will take place this evening when the cycling fans in Rouyn-Noranda will have their turn to cheer on the riders.
