Tour de l’Abitibi – Stage 1 Flash

July 17, 2007 (Val d’Or, Quebec) – Guillaume Boivin (Can) Québec has won today’s 114km road race from Rouyn-Noranda to Val-d’Or in a bunch sprint over Tony Guinhut (Fra) France Pôle Espoirs in 2nd , and Guinhut’s team mate Quentin Gougeon in 3rd.

There was a big crash with 10km to go and the USA’s Taylor Phinney (USA National) went down but was able to recover and claim 4th today. However Phinney could not hold on to the leader’s brown jersey as Canada’s Boivin takes over with time bonuses earned during sprints during the stage.

Today is a double stage as well so riders will tackle an 8.6km team time trail around the streets of Val-d’Or this afternoon.

Note: we incorrectly called yesterday’s report Stage 1 when it was actually the Prologue. We have since corrected this and apologize for any confusion we may have caused.
