July 19, 2018 (Malartic, Que.) – Defending champ, Riley Sheehan (Team USA), 18, delivered a 1-2 punch taking the 52.8km Stage 4 in Malartic following his Stage 3 Time Trial victory on Thursday morning. Team Canada’s Riley Pickrell, finished on the podium in second to reclaim the Points jersey following his unfortunate puncture at the end of Stage 2. Yoshiaki Fukuda (Jpn) Team Japan took the final podium spot. Pickrell’s teammate, Robin Plamondon finished eighth for two Canucks in the top 10.
Sheehan was able to extend his overall lead while Canada’s Ben Katerberg (TaG Cycling Race Team) remains 4th overall. “It’s amazing. It’s phenomenal. I’m super psyched,” said Sheehan after winning the bunch sprint. “My team was able to make it as easy as possible for me at the end, so I was as fresh as possible. In the cross wind sections at the back side of the course, they made sure I wasn’t in the wind. I got to give it to my team today.”
On Friday, Stage 5 will take riders on a 99.8 km route between Amos and Val-d’Or.
