June 14, 2006 – Venture onto West 10th Avenue on Sunday June 18th and you might think you have stepped onto the Avenue Des Champs Elysees in Paris for the day as some of Canada’s top cyclists battle out this years B.C Provincial Road Race Championship; The Formwerks Westside Cycling Classic. The Start /Finish area will be situated on 10th Avenue at Sasamat, shops and cafes will open early in a carnival like atmosphere usually found in France during July at “Le Tour”.
The main event will go shortly after 10.00am as riders take on a 13.5km loop of UBC, Spanish Banks and the ever vibrant Point Grey Village with funds raised during the day’s events going to support the BC Cancer Foundation. Over 300 riders are expected to participate and all will be given Cancer Prevention Facts information booklet, and sunscreen/lip balm. “The emphasis will be on awareness as well as the financial support” says Race Director Jonathan Wornell.
