July 17, 2003 – A relatively flat stage today saw Juan Antonio Flecha (iBanesto.com) take the win, charging ahead of a 8-man breakaway that escaped early in the stage. In the pack, the fight for green jersey points was afoot, with Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) taking a few points back from points leader Baden Cooke (FDJ.com). After the break crossed, the bunch was led by McEwen, who pulls closer to his compatriot Cooke in the points competition. There were no changes to the overall G.C.
