June 23, 2019 (Saint-Georges, Que.) – Brendan Rhim (USA) Arapahoe/Hincapie p/b BMC took home the biggest win of his career claiming the 34th annual Tour de Beauce. He triumphed during the final laps of the 122km Stage 5 in a barn-burner finale played out on the streets of Saint-Georges.

Defending champ, James Piccoli (Team Canada), made a valiant attempt to defend his title but in the end finished 4th on the final stage and second overall. Diego Milan Jimenez (Dom) Inteja IMCA – Ridea DCT took the final stage win with Rhim second and Keegan Swirbul (USA) Floyd’s Pro Cycling Team third.

“It’s the biggest win of my career,” said Rhim who was all smiles and very pleased with his victory. “It was very tight and you never know. Piccoli was stronger on the climbs, but I think my sprint was better.” Rhim is no stranger to winning in Canada having won the legendary Tour de l’Abitibi in 2013.

“I cannot be disappointed,” commented Team Canada’s Piccoli the defending champ. “We really tried everything. We are happy with the result.”

Nicolas Zukowsky (Can) Floyd’s Pro Cycling Team, 21, in yellow since since Stage 2, finished 7th on the final stage to claim third overall. Five Canadians made the top-10 on the final GC.

“I felt really good and was confident. The team rode well and I cannot be disappointed with third at the Tour de Beauce and the best young rider jersey. I’m still very happy. After winning Saguenay last week it’s all good for the upcoming Canadian road championships next week,” said Zukowsky.

The final stage at Beauce is often the decider and this year featured one of the closest races in memory. The General Classification was so tight that the top five were less than 15 seconds apart. Zukowsky and Tyler Magner (Rally UHC) were a mere 0.97 seconds apart. Serghei Tvetcov, Zukowsky’s teammate, was at six seconds, Rhim was ten seconds behind and Piccoli was at 14 seconds.

Canada’s Pier-Andre Cote (Rally UHC) became the virtual leader in an early break that was eventually reeled in and a reshuffling saw Milan, Rhim and Piccoli in charge as a small break of five riders gained 30 seconds on the yellow jersey.

Magner cracked as Floyd’s tried in vein to bring back the motivated leaders and came within 15 seconds but the deed was done as Milan took the win with Rhim in second to top the final GC podium including the White Jersey. Zukowsky won the Best Young Rider Red Jersey and Oscar Sanchez (Col) Canel’s Specialized won the KOM Polka Dot Jersey. Floyd’s Pro Cycling won the Team Classification.
