May 17, 2006 – The 2006 Tour d’Afrique is complete with the US coming out on top for the first time in this Tour’s short history. Matt Caretti finished 1st ahead of George Oertel (RSA) and Urs Luethi (SUI) with a time of 379 hours, 43 minutes, and 7 seconds — over 11 hours ahead of 2nd place.

In the women’s category Joan Louwrens continued South Africa’s strong presence in the Tour as she finished 1st ahead of countrymen Phillipa le Roux and Switzerland’s Christa Meier. Joan’s time was 436 hours, 57 minutes, and 27 seconds. All the stats are now available on the Tour d’Afrique website.
