January 19, 2011 (Toronto, ON) – Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday is trying to stop the 2015 Pan Am Games BMX course from being built in Etobicoke’s Centennial Park reports The Globe and Mail. Holyday, who is also councillor for Etobicoke Centre, failed to convince the majority of Toronto’s Executive Committee to back him this Monday, but he did convince Mayor Rob Ford.
Ford’s administration still has to consult with the community on this, but it looks like the 2015 Pan Am Games BMX course to hosted by the Greater Toronto area, might have to be built elsewhere.
According to a previous report in The Toronto Sun, Holyday complained that the $1.5 million Pan Am BMX course would be used by a very small number of people and will detract from the attractions which bring most visitors to Centennial Park.
