Toronto Cyclo-cross Race Supports Two Great Causes in 2012

release by the Midweek Club

October 09, 2012 (Mississauga, ON) – Barrelling down the ski hills of Etobicoke’s Centennial Park has become par for course for a growing community of endurance cyclists. Now in its 15th year, Midweek Club’s Toronto Cyclo-cross Race, has quietly gained momentum and is now one of the longest running cyclo-cross events in Ontario and is the only provincial level cross event held in the GTA.

This year’s Toronto Cyclo-cross race will be held on Sunday, October 14 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with proceeds donated to two great causes: the Ontario Cycling Organization’s youth programs and Erace Cancer’s support of cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

Sound Solutions Racing Team will be present at Toronto Cyclo-cross selling “HOSS” hats and will raffle off a signed and framed Team Garmin-Sharp jersey. Midweek will also contribute a portion of race entry fees to this cause. This is to memorialize friend and teammate Kevin Watson, who passed away from pancreatic cancer this year. Kevin, aka Hoss, was an avid supporter of cyclo-cross and for encouraging and enabling youth access and participation in the sport. Midweek will have a part of the course designated “The Kevin Watson Snarl,” that will be designed by Bob Haufler to be as similar as possible to sections that Kevin had designed in the past. Kevin always helped Midweek with course design and setup at this event in the past.

Erace Cancer Cycling Team will be accepting cash donations for their cause. These are easily made when registering for the race on-line at the Ontario Cycling Organization website HERE, or on Midweek’s website HERE. Midweek will be donating a portion of the race entry fees to this cause as well.

Pre-Reg Race Fee is $45 for all OCA Members. UCI or OCA Citizen Permits required and must be presented at sign-in. Pre-Registration closes on October 11, 2012.
