June 1, 2004 – Dear Cycling Community Members, Please join us in a
celebration of cycling and Toronto’s bike culture at the City’s inaugural
Community Bicycle Festival. Find out what the Toronto
Bike Plan proposes for your neighbourhood (Wards 14 and 18 – Davenport).
Talk with staff implementing the Bike Plan. Enjoy activities for children
and families, refreshments, music, bicycle demos, and free bike
inspections. Pick up free 2004 Toronto Cycling Map.

At 11 a.m. Councillor and Toronto Cycling Committee Chair Adam Giambrone
(Ward 18 – Davenport) and Councillor Sylvia Watson (Ward 14 – Davenport)
will open the festival.

The Toronto Bike Plan makes 49 recommendations for shifting gears towards a
more bicycle-friendly city. These recommended actions include everything
from small scale cycling improvements to safety programs, secure bike
parking, better links with transit and an ambitious 1,000 km Bikeway
Network that will link cyclists with neighbourhoods and destinations across
the City. When completed, every Toronto resident will live within a five
minute bicycle ride to the nearest bikeway. Get involved. Come and share
your ideas about the Toronto Bike Plan and the City’s many bicycle programs
and services.

This summer, the City of Toronto is planning to hold four Community Bicycle
Festivals. The other festivals are:
2. Saturday, June 19, 2004 – East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Ave
3. Thursday, July 1, 2004 – Thomson Memorial Park, Brimley Rd & Lawrence East
4. Saturday, July 17, 2004 – Colonel Sam Smith Park, Kipling Ave &
Lakeshore West
