July 20, 2012 (Milton, ON) – Town council here held a hearing on June 16 concerning the proposed velodrome, but only one local resident showed up, according to Inside Halton. Town officials held the meeting to make land use amendments necessary for construction of the $40 Million facility. The lone resident was Olga Shewchun although the local chamber of commerce — which is supportive of the project — also sent their executive director, Sandy Martin.
Shewchun suggested that the project is being rushed along and that this “could lead to a doubling or tripling of costs.” The velodrome is proposed for a vacant 4.24 hectare agricultural site as part of infrastructure needed to accommodate the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. The indoor structure will be a 250-metre oval cycling track with banked corners and 1,500 permanent seats.
