May 10, 2007 – American Tyler Hamilton and German Jörg Jaksche were suspended by the Italian-based Tinkoff Team today according to AFP. A press release from the team indicated that the two cyclists are suspended from racing until their role in the Puerto Affair has been clarified. Neither cyclist was registered for the 2007 Giro that kicks off Saturday in Sardinia.
Hamilton, 36, finished second overall in the 2002 Giro and won Olympic gold in road biking in 2004. He previously served a two-year suspension for blood doping that finished in September, 2006. Hamilton signed with Tinkoff last November.
Jaksche, 30, finished third in the 2006 Tour of Switzerland.
