August 22, 2003 (Bromont, Quebec) – Here's our report from the final day of competitions at the Tim Hortons Track Nationals that was missed. The final day began in laughter and ended in laughter. Minutes before the start of the first event, a wave of disbelief and amusement passed through the crowd when lining up in the Senior Men's Keirin qualifying first heat was none other The Green Hulk! However, the recently made famous comic book character looked a little different. He was a little smaller and the skinny white shaved cycling legs gave his disguise away – it wasn't the Green Hulk but Glen Rendall from Ontario having fun. “I knew I couldn't win so I might as well get noticed”, said Rendall. He compared his stunt to Mario Cipollini who has been known to show up to races he can't win dressed as Caesar or in a leopard outfit.

Unfortunately the incredible Hulk did not make it through to the final, but the gold medal performance by Travis Smith of Alberta was incredible none-of-the-less. He blasted by everyone making it easy for the officials to award him first place, but the two remaining podium spots were more difficult and required a photo-finish examination. Finally it was announced that Murray Solemn of British Columbia and Alexandre Maurais of Quebec had squeaked into second on third spots!

In the Madison event it was Rendall, minus the Green Hulk suit, and Pascal Choquette of Quebec who were aggressive from start to finish and ended up winning gold. They placed third last year and were hoping to improve on that performance. Unable to train together, and with only a ten minute warm-up prior to the race, they executed their Madison exchanges like pro's. “We timed our exchanges well and raced smart,” said Rendall. Their plan was to use Rendall's speed for the sprints and Choquettes endurance for launching attacks immediately after a sprint. It worked well forcing the other teams to chase, including their closest contenders the Schwalbe Team of Murray Solemn and Scott Laliberte of British Columbia.

The last event the Championships was the wrap-up Banquet held in a large tent on the Bromont Center premises – an event filled with food, beer and fun. Without stress the athletes, officials and supporters were able to kick back and relax, a memorable way to end the Championships.
