June 27, 2004 (Kamloops, BC) — An incredible day of racing saw Health Net’s Gord Fraser take his first ever, long-deserved Maple Leaf jersey. After 180km of racing on an extremely tough, hot circuit Fraser soloed from a break that included some of Canada’s top racers – Symmetrics’ Svein Tuft (second) and Cam Evans (first espoir), VW-Trek’s Alex Lavallee (third), Jet Fuel’s Andrew Randell, and Sierra Nevada’s Eric Wohlberg (sixth).

Today’s 180km circuit took riders up a 3km climb as much as 18 times in 30 degree temperatures, with a strong wind on the exposed sections. These tough conditions forced almost half of the peloton to retire, including a frustrated Dom Perras (Ofoto), who raced aggressively but could not get away.

Following this major event will be the Olympics selections which are anybody’s guess.
