Tim Hortons MTB XC Nationals 2007 — Elite/U23 Men\’s Full Results, Live Updates and Photos

July 21, 2007 (Mt. Washington, B.C.) – The Elite Men’s XC race is underway as the riders complete (5) laps of the 6.4 km course not six (6). The course is wet as the rain continues off and on and the organizers have opted for the alternate wet weather route which bypasses an extremely muddy section of singletrack near the end of the course.

Lap 1
At 3/4 of the way thru the first lap it’s Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) leading in a small group with Max Plaxton (Rocky Mountain/Haywood) and Seamus McGrath (Rocky Mountain/Haywood), with Derek Zanstar (3 Rox Racing/Scott) in 4th at 20-25 seconds.

Lap 2
At the start of lap 2 it’s Kabush, Plaxton and McGrath. We missed Mat Toulouse (Maxxis) earlier on lap 1 who was ahead of Zandstra and they have been joined by Kris Sneddon (Kona) chasing the leaders.

Lap 3
Finishing lap 2 and beginning lap 3 the three leaders are still Kabush, Plaxton and McGrath with Zandstra in 4th, Sneddon in 5th and Andrew Watson (ON, Team RACE) is now in 6th as Toulouse has dropped into 7th.

Lap 4
Coming thru on lap 4 there’s very little change as Kabush, Plaxton and McGrath continue to lead as Zandstra chases in 4th, Sneddon in 5th, Watson is 6th as Toulouse is 7th… except heavy rain has returned – conditions are miserable.

Lap 5 Final
Kabush has opened up a 10-second lead on Plaxton on the final lap as McGrath is now at 30 seconds behind him in 3rd being chased down by Zanstra who is in 4th another 15 sec. back. Sneddon is 5th almost 2 min behind, Watson is 6th as Mike Garrigan (Epic Ride/Jet Power) is in 7th and Matt Hadley (Rocky Mountain/Haywood) is in 8th.

Neal Kindree (Kona/Les Gets) is leading the U23 men’s race and has come thru over 1 minute up on Raphael Gagne (Rocky Mountain/Haywood) in 2nd.
