Tim Hortons 2003 Nationals TT

June 27, 2003 (Hamilton, Ont.) – On today's tough TT course, Saturn took both National Championships. Eric Wohlberg (Saturn) destroyed the field, beating Svein Tuft by three minutes. Lyne Bessette (Saturn) was a slight surprise, beating heavy favourite Genevieve Jeanson (RONA-Esker) by half a minute. Jeanson was up front about the day, “I have no excuses, I just did not go faster then Lyne. Sometimes you just know when you have a good day..and today it just wasn't one of those.” The course was certainly tougher than recent years, and Wohlberg showed he can go well whether the parcours is flat, or hilly. Does this become easy, over the years, for Eric? “Certainly not,” he said, “Winning a bike race is never easy, and today was a tough slog from the first kilometre to the last.” When asked how he thinks he will fare at the Worlds on the same course, Eric was modest. “The Worlds are a very different race, and the weather will certainly play a key. For me, if I am selected, getting top 20, or top 15, would be fantastic. The main thing right now is to qualify as many Canadians as possible for the road race..”
