October 27, 2007 (Warrnambool, Australia) — Timothy Decker (Aus) Bendigo has won the 112th running of the 299km Melbourne to Warrnambool Classic with a time of 7:15:15 according to the Geelong Advertiser. This race, which began in 1895, is the longest one-day road race on the UCI calendar and second only to the Liège-Bastogne-Liège Classic – which began in 1892 – in longevity.
Some 93 cyclists were classified after the race, almost all of them Australian or New Zealanders. Canada’s Gina Grain is entered on this year’s start list as a DNS in a field overwhelmingly dominated by men. The 1998 edition of the race lists Canadian Eric Wohlberg as the best sprinter.
