May 29, 2008 (Milton, ON) – The family and friends of Tim DaSilva invite you to join them on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 11:06 am until 5:00 pm at the Mold Masters Sports-Plex (221 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario L7G 4A8 – Upstairs Meeting Room) to learn more about the sport of BMX Racing and the importance of the Tim DaSilva BMX Track to our community of Halton Hills. Petition forms will be available to sign or please bring along a letter of support for the Tim DaSilva BMX Track.

Tim DaSilva was an Olympic hopeful in BMX racing, he raced in the Pro class and was a member of Team Ontario. During the last two months of his life he competed internationally in BMX races in Alberta and Quebec and also competed in the National and Provincial races in Ontario. Tim and his younger brother Christopher were the first two BMX racers to receive Quest for Gold funding.

Tim’s goal was to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games this Summer but tragically Tim lost his life on July 15, 2006 when a machine that he was operating at Halton Place in Halton Hills tipped. Tim had designed and was building the BMX track for the community, the track was in the process of being completed when the tragic accident happened. Tim’s dream was to give Ontario BMX racers the opportunity to have the most technical track to practice and race on. Tim’s hope was that one day an Ontario rider could quality for a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team.

Jay Miron AKA “The Canadian Beast” is a Canadian BMX athlete and owner of MacNeil Bikes. Jay has won 9 X-Games medals, including the first ever X-Games gold medal for Bike Dirt. In addition, Miron is credited with inventing more than 30 tricks, including the double backflip. Jay has spent over 20 years as a BMX rider, he went straight from high school graduation to his first summer BMX tour which was the beginning of a radical journey from BMX high profile rider to an international businessman.

Bill Allen AKA “Cru Jones” was chosen to play the part in the movie “RAD” after the director saw him in an episode of Hill Street Blues. “RAD” is an 80’s movie that has become a classic favourite to many BMX racers and one of the best BMX movies ever made. “Cru Jones” was Tim’s inspiration to one day become a #1 BMX rider, as as young boy Tim watched this movie endless times and in his later years made it a reality as Tim become the top rider in his class.

Riders from Team Ontario which Tim was a member will also be present. Bring along your family and friends to view firsthand what the newest Olympic sport is all about. There will be a scale clay model of the Tim DaSilva BMX Track for everyone to look at. The track is located 11.06km from the heart of Georgetown. You will also have a chance to win a REDLINE BMX BIKE, similar to the bikes that athletes will be racing at this Summer Olympics. A few other exciting prizes will also be given away. Other activities, will include photo opportunities, autographs and face painting for the younger crowd.
