July 18, 2019 (Milton, ON) – Kevin Wallace of Gears Bike Shop today announced details of the Peloton Ride a NEW cycling event taking place at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (Milton Velodrome) in Milton on September 14th, 2019.
An annual one-day event, the Peloton Ride promises to be “One Great Ride” for all by incorporating the concepts of a peloton into three scenic routes in Escarpment Country: 50 km, 80 km and 120 km. All routes are fully supported and registration includes refreshments, lunch and a festival at the Velodrome site.
“Gears is more than a bike shop – it’s a community,” said Kevin Wallace, Gears Founder and Co-owner and Co-Founder of the Peloton Ride. “And along with our partner the Humberview Group (HG) we’ve been inspired to create a cycling event to raise funds to support men’s mental health programs, start a dialogue and reduce the stigma associated with suicide.”The word “peloton” refers to the main field or group of cyclists who work together in a race to support one another and make it to the finish line. The peloton functions to serve and protect the individual rider and makes riding in a group an incredibly dynamic experience. The Peloton Ride organizers, the Kintsugi Alliance, are comparing cycling to real life and have incorporated these concepts into the event, stating “by supporting one another through life’s ups and downs – we can all make it to the finish line.”
“The Humberview Group (driveHG.ca) is a company full of cycling enthusiasts,” said The Humberview Group Owner and President, John Esplen. “We love to ride and the opportunity to turn that passion into a mechanism to help raise money and support men’s mental health and Trillium Health Partners Foundation was a no brainer. We’re proud supporters of the many great charities and efforts that make our community a better place for all,” Esplen continued. “Playing a positive and active role in giving back is fundamental to who we are.”
The event was inspired by the suicide death of a prominent member of the cycling and sports marketing industry in Canada. A portion of the registration proceeds will be going to Trillium Health Partners Foundation. Pelotonride.ca was developed as a platform for event details, to collect donations and to provide a forum for sharing stories and finding support and solutions.
