The OCA Seeks Provincial Endurance Coach for MTB and Road

June 3, 2010 – The Ontario Cycling Association is looking for that unique coach to assume the role of provincial endurance coach. This forward looking, dynamic individual will lead our provincial coaching program under the direction of the association’s high performance manager. The focus of the program will be on endurance athletes in the following sports – Mountain Bike and Road. The candidate will manage and co- ordinate provincial team programs and work with Tier 1-3 athletes identified as having the potential for international success. International success includes Ontario athletes attending junior and senior worlds, podium results at the 2015 Pan Am games and the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Job Title: Provincial Endurance Coach
Job Focus: Endurance Mountain Bike and Road
Reporting to: Manager, High Performance

Brief Description of Job:
Reporting to the Manager, High Performance, The Provincial Coach will be responsible for co- ordinating the men’s and women’s Endurance programs at the Elite, Espoir and Junior level. There will be a specific focus on Tier 1-3 athletes with international potential. The Head coach will be expected to Manage and Co-ordinate Provincial Team programs with a major focus on podium results at the 2015 Pan Am games and Ontario athletes on the podium at the 2016 Summer Olympics. To support Ontario High Performance athletes in achieving world class performance.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:

Qualifications:
– The successful candidate must have proven leadership, vision and expertise in the
planning and implementation of a high-performance program
– Candidates must be registered in or have completed NCCP Level 3 certification
– Minimum of five years of technical experience (coaching, HPD, sport science) at the
National/International level
– Experience and success in implementing high performance programs geared towards
National and World podium finishes
– Strong understanding and ability to integrate a multi-disciplinary approach to high
performance athlete and coach development
– Bilingualism is a preferred asset
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge:
– Knowledge of OCA/CCA LTAD and implementation of this system
– Candidates must have extensive knowledge of Mountain Bike XC and Road categories
(Endurance)
– Role of Canadian Sport Centre Ontario
– Canadian Cycling Associations Women’s endurance coaching program
– In depth knowledge of the competition structure for cycling
– Understands UCI rules
– Computer knowledge, specifically MS office applications

Leadership Competencies:
– Strong leadership and organizational skills
– Drive and energy for Cycling within Ontario
– Building and maintaining relationships with coaches, athletes, teams and clubs
– Strategic Focus
– Direct accountability to results and direction of High Performance program
– Ability to work within a multi stakeholder environment
– Leading key provincial and national events, including but not limited to Provincial Team
projects, training camps, selection camps, Canada Games, National Championships.

Domestic and some International travel will be required.

Compensation in the range of $40,000 – $45,000 per year with a competitive benefits package.
