April 09, 2014 – Niagara’s top competitive cycling team is launching its 2014 campaign with a brand new look and a new focus on giving back to the community. Team905 Cycling p/b Steelmark Business Services, which competes in road, mountain bike and cyclocross races throughout the year in Ontario and Western New York, is joining forces with two local charities to help raise much-needed funds and awareness.
“As a local sports organization we want to be very active in the community,” said Team905 director Jamie Schuman. “We feel that giving back to the community is vital to the success of our team and the partners that support us.”
The team, made up of seven riders from across the Niagara Region, will race this year in support of both the Niagara chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, as well as Autism Niagara.
Both organizations were selected because riders on the team have been personally affected by the causes they support.
“Since starting Team905 I’ve always had the desire to have the team give back to the community, no matter the amount,” Schuman said. “Moving in this new direction, we increase our ability to give back and give great local business a unique vehicle to participate.”
Team905 partners have agreed to contribute to the team’s charity partners, with incentives based on team participation and results throughout 2014.
Cherie Willis, the Cystic Fibrosis Canada chapter president for Niagara said the partnership is an important one. “Support from the community is crucial as we continue the fight to find a cure or control for CF. You never know when the next research breakthrough will happen and every dollar counts,” she said.
Autism Ontario – Niagara Chapter Manager, Fran Chesney had this to say about the partnership. “We welcome Team905 Cycling to our dedicated family of supporters. We all benefit when we see the potential, respect differences and help others realize their dreams, and riding for Autism will carry this message to new audiences. Our team is stronger and our voice louder with the addition of Team 905 Cycling. Thank you for helping us increase opportunities and acceptance for over 100,000 people living with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Ontario, and for ensuring that each person with ASD is provided the means to achieve quality of life as a respected member of society. We wish your team much success.”
In addition, the team has launched an entirely new uniform look for 2014 with a new design and colour scheme featuring a retro look. Along with that, Team905 has a redesigned website that can be found at www.team905cycling.com. It includes more information about the team, its race schedule, the riders, and the companies and charities Team905 has partnered with for 2014.
The entire Team905 Cycling team would like to thank the 2014 partners, Steelmark Business Services, Wellbrook Plumbing, Inception Cyclery, Mortgage Intelligence-Niagara, Zoom Leisure, Waving Cat Studio, HoneyMaxx, Rumble, Clif Bar, Cat5Gear, Schwalbe, and Smith Optics.
