Team SpiderTech Ready For 2012 Amgen Tour Of California

by pedalmag.com

May 10, 2012 (St. Catharines, ON) – Team SpiderTech powered by C10 will line up for the opening stage of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California on Sunday as a proven contender in the biggest stage race on the continent.

A year after SpiderTech walked away with the prestigious mountains classification, Canada’s only pro continental team is back as one of 16 world-class squads that will battle it out over more than 1,180 km of picturesque California roads from May 13 to 20.

Team SpiderTech Pat McCarty is the defending “King of the Mountain” at the Tour of California, and he will be attempting to defend his jersey, despite coming back from mononucleosis. “It’s tough to say how I will fare in this year’s AToC.  The start of the season has been less than ideal; although I feel I’m fully recovered from mono, I am uncertain of my form. That being said, I’m excited to be lining up once again, especially as the defending KOM jersey wearer. I hope to have another chance at winning the jersey that made the 2011 AToC such a special race for me,” said McCarty of Austin, Texas.

For teammate Lucas Euser, this race is always circled on his calendar at the beginning of each season, as he gets an opportunity to race in front of his friends and family.

“The Amgen Tour of California is a race that will always have a special place in my heart. The first year I raced it in 2006, I remember speeding home after the last stage only to stay up all night cramming for a midterm the following morning. I have grown as a person and as a professional alongside the AToC. To have my family and friends be able to see firsthand what I do all year long and work so hard for means the world to me. I can’t wait to make them proud!,” said Euser, who grew up in Napa, California.

The prominent race will kick start on Sunday, in Santa Rosa, and will finish the following Sunday at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.

Fans from across the world will be able to follow the race live through the RadioShack Tour Tracker, which will deliver race coverage across web, mobile and tablet viewing platforms via live video, audio and real-time data streams using the tested Tour Tracker technology.
