Team SATS at Montreal World Cup

May 27, 2004 (Copenhagen, Denmark) – Danish Team SATS, the top-ranked women’s bicycling team in the world, is pleased to announce that it will be sending a very strong contingent of riders to North America this week to race in the Montreal World Cup
on May 29, and the Liberty Classic in Philadelphia on June 6. Norwegian champion Anita Valen will lead the team in both races, but any of the team’s quality riders are capable of winning either race.

Team SATS members currently scheduled to race are, in the Montreal World Cup:

– Anita Valen, Norway

– Manon Jutras, Canada

– Trine Hansen, Denmark

– Christina Peick-Andersen, Denmark

– Meredith Miller, USA

In Philadelphia, the same team will compete, except that Australian
Rochelle Gilmore will replace Manon Jutras. With the Olympics coming up in August, Team S.A.T.S intends to use these two demanding races as very important build-ups for its Olympic hopefuls.

We hope that this is just the beginning of a deeper commitment in North America for Team SATS. Beyond this year, the team is developing an ambitious plan to expand its presence on the North American race calendar. While not forsaking our European base, Montreal and Philadelphia are but two excellent examples of just how far women’s racing in North America has come. The fan base is huge, the competition gets tougher every year, and the media exposure is tremendous. It is only fitting the best teams in the world begin to look harder at competing in North America.
