Team Maxxis-Giant – Cyclocross Racing

September 8, 2004 – Validating its firm commitment to cycling and fielding the best professional mountain bike team in North America in 2004, Team Maxxis today announces its cross season merger with Team Giant to form Team Maxxis-Giant. This new program will showcase outstanding world-class cyclocross athletes that will focus on the Crank Brothers US Gran Prix of Cross along with Microsoft’s Seattle Series, Verge’s New England series and other high level events across the continent.

The roster consists of athletes from both Giant and Maxxis’s mountain and
road programs, featuring 6-time National Champion Adam Craig (Giant), 2004
NORBA XC and STXC Champion Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) and cross staple Jonny
Sundt (Jittery Joe’s ) along with special guest appearances from Cesar
Grajales, Kashi Leuchs and possibly a gravity rider or two.

Team Director Eric Wallace said, “This is a great trio of athletes with huge
experience. The support of Maxxis, Giant and Cateye has allowed us to hit
the road with an all-star team formed specifically to compete at the USGP
and other top-notch events. I think we’ve all been chomping at the cross bit
since mid-July”. And from Giant marketing honch, Steve Westover “We are
excited to support this team because of the talent and excitement that these
riders and cyclocross racing bring to cycling”.

The team will be officially presented on October 2nd at the third annual
race under the lights, Star Crossed at Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond, WA.

Champion – MTB

Geoff Kabush – 2000 Canadian Olympian – MTB; 2002 Canadian National
Champion – MTB; 2003 Silver, Canadian National Championship – Cross; 2004
NORBA NCS Overall Champion – Cross Country and Short Track

Jonny Sundt – Multiple top five results from Super Cup, Microsoft Series,
Verge Series, Monkey Hill and more. THE cross rider in the US, Jonny,
garners more media coverage than nearly all other cross athletes combined.
