July 24, 2010 (Riva del Garda, Italy) – The final Stage 8 of the Transalp was from Madonna di Campiglio to Riva del Garda and Cathy and I got in some fabulous trail riding around this popular downhill ski area. The last day of the competition was 75km for the riders with an early climb and then some road riding in the middle section followed by a long down hill with some fairly steep sections to the finish in Riva del Garda.
It rained most of the night before and it was 7 degrees Celcius at the start – but the sun came out during the day encourage riders on their last push to finish. Canada’s Chris Bryce (VeloEpic.com) commented that it was a tough day but that final 15km with a view of the Lake Garda made it all worth while. Chris and his team partner Ross McKegney had a refreshing swim in the lake at the end of the day after we celebrated the epic Transalp and their great ride.
