Team Escape Velocity Super Tuesday

July 12, 2008 – With BC Superweek (Tour de Delta, Tour de Gastown, Giro di Burnaby and Tour de White Rock) kicking off on July 11, the Pro, Cat 1 and Cat 2 cyclists in the Lower Mainland have their racing calendar full for the next seven days.

As a public service, Escape Velocity is CANCELLING the Men’s and Women’s Cat 1 and 2 races in for the July 15 World Tuesday Night Championships to allow the elite cyclists to rest themselves for BC Superweek’s marquee event, the Tour de Gastown. With the likes of Canadian Olympians Erinne Willock, Alex Wrubelski, Gina Grain, Zach Bell, Svein Tuft and US pro Chris Horner lining up on Wednesday night for Gastown, we feel that the elite cyclists should take it easy on Tuesday night. Hydrate up. Eat some pasta. Do some routine maintenance. Watch a movie and go to bed early.

However the Pro cyclist’s loss is everyone else’s gain by giving Escape Velocity the opportunity to allocate an extra 15 minutes to each of the other men’s and women’s categories for the World Tuesday Night Championships. On what we are calling “Super Tuesday”, all the remaining categories (Men: Cat 5, 4 and 3; Women Cat 4 and 3) will ride for a total race time of 45 minutes. This extra 15 minutes of fast paced criterium racing at UBC will give all participants a better understanding of the “Hurricane of Pain” that the Pros will be experiencing at Gastown.
