January 26, 2012 – It is with great enthusiasm that Team Ekoï.com / Gaspésien officially announces obtaining their UCI Continental license for the 2012 season! This license represents a step towards future growth. The organization wishes to one day become a benchmark in terms of a professional team and pivotal player in the progression for talented young North Americans cyclists!
This effort would not be possible without the support of sponsors who are as passionate in the sport. EKOÏ.com, Devinci, and Trek financial coaching are joining the organization for the first season and Gaspésien continues to support our growth for over the past 6 years! Our mission is clear, helping young riders to advance in the sport while keeping in mind one simple thing ”having fun”. Cycling, even at a professional level should remain fun. Practice this sport with high ethics, focus and enjoyment is the key to the success of our organization.
For the 2012 season, the team will participate in UCI America tour, allowing young riders to develop their experience in a more difficult peloton. As the average age of rider is relatively young (22 years), the team can rely on the experience of two established veterans with vast experience in the international circuit. Mathieu Roy and Adam Carr will serve as team captain and guide runners as Emile Jean (Junior Canadian Road Champion 2011) and Charles Matte (Quebec junior Road Champion 2011) will enter their first year as senior.Additions to this group are Jordan Brochu, Antoine Matteau (2011 Quebec Road Champion), Jean Samuel Deshaies, Charles Bryer, Yannick Bedard, and Francois Chabot. Pierrick Naud showed his talent in Belgium last year with the Canadian U23 team.
You can follow the team throughout the season on the new official website HERE. The calendar and action photos will be updated regularly, and blog comments are welcome by all!
Coming in the next few weeks, team official presentation will be at the Montreal bicycle show at Place Bonaventure on Saturday February 18th.
