December 8, 2005 – Tanya Dubnicoff, former national team cyclist and newly-named Canadian National BMX Coach, is looking forward to the upcoming BMX National Team Training Camp, December 16 -18 in and near Calgary.
The camp gets underway on Friday, December 16 at the Olympic Oval in Calgary. The participating athletes — Samantha Cools (19, Airdrie, AB), Aaron Lepp (19, Calgary), Scott Erwood (18, Langley, BC), Patrick Lebel (18, Calgary), and Christine Miller (17, Calgary) — will participate in fitness testing, video review and season planning.
Media are invited to attend the camp on Friday December 16th between 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Olympic Oval, located on the University of Calgary Campus in northwest Calgary, during which time the athletes will be doing agility testing and indoor starting gate practice.
On Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, the cyclists will be racing and training on the indoor BMX track in Morley, Alberta. They will use the weekend as preparation for the Christmas Classic National, a UCI event in Cleveland, Ohio on December 28, 2005.
Dubnicoff sees the camp as a good chance to set the framework for a strong national team season. “This camp will be a great opportunity for the athletes to come together outside the usual competition environment and for me to start building the team,” said Dubnicoff.
“I am looking forward to see how these athletes perform,” continued Dubnicoff. “I believe this is a solid team that will push each other to the next level.”
