Symmetrics To Compete at 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia

April 8, 2005 (Vancouver, B.C.) – In just its third year of existence, and its first year as a professional team, Symmetrics Cycling will be competing in North America’s premier cycling event, the April 19-24 Dodge Tour de Georgia. Symmetrics Cycling, a Unione Cycliste Internationale registered Continental Team from Vancouver, BC, Canada will be lining up to race in the six day, 1032 km event against six-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and his Discovery Channel team, along with 15 other professional teams from 18 countries.

Symmetrics will be the first all-Canadian trade team in the history of the race and will be competing against other top European teams and domestic squads from across North America. “The caliber of teams, matched with Georgia’s beautiful yet challenging terrain ensures the 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia will be the best yet. While we’re an invitation only event, we had teams from around the world reaching out to us, clamoring for an invitation and looking to make their mark in front of an American audience,” said Stan Holm, executive director of the 2005 Dodge Tour de Georgia. “The Dodge Tour de Georgia is the most anticipated stage race in the U.S. hands down and one of pro cycling’s most exciting new races anywhere. And, as many are predicting, this just might be the last time fans can see Lance race here in the U.S. All I can say is get ready!”

“We are really excited to be invited to Georgia as it is like the Tour de France of North America,” said Mark Cunningham, CEO of Symmetrics. “While this is great for our team and sponsors, it is also an amazing accomplishment for Canadian cycling as a whole. We are the only team from Canada competing in the race and to the best of my knowledge, never has an all Canadian team been invited to a race of this caliber. With our recent results at the Redlands Classic I think we are deserving of our spot on the start line and I know the riders are pretty excited.”
