October 30, 2004 – Symmetrics Cycling’s mission statement is to provide support through leadership, guidance and development within a professional infrastructure to foster the personal and athletic growth of the next generation of Canadian Olympic cyclists. Brad Fairall, Christian Meier, and Jeff Sherstobitoff have all signed with Symmetrics and will be a huge part of this next generation. Fairall, 19 from West Vancouver, BC, Meier, 19 from Sussex, NB, and Sherstobitoff, 22 of Kelowna, BC have all proved their worth in 2004. All three riders spent time in Europe with the National Espoir program and raced domestically as well. Sherstobitoff placed third at Nationals in the Espoir Time Trial Championships and then was selected to race the World Espoir Championships for Canada after some impressive European results.

Meier and Fairall were both part of the spring Espoir project and returned to Canada in late May. Both riders had strong late seasons with Meier winning the opening time trial at the Tobago Cycling Classic against some top US professionals and was consistently in the top 20 at Green Mountain Stage Race. Fairall placed a brilliant second in the BC Espoir Time Trial Championships and third overall behind Svein Tuft and Sherstobitoff.

Returning to the team for his third year will be Scott Goguen of Coquitlam, BC. It will be Goguen’s years of experience that will help to shape Symmetrics’ young riders into a formidable unit. Goguen, a 1990 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist in the road race, will primarily race a BC and Pacific NW race schedule.

Symmetrics Cycling Director Jeremy Storie says, “With our roster pretty much complete we have a team that will be suited for the long term. Adding Jeff, Christian, and Brad to our current young riders Cam Evans, Mash Cooper, and Will Routley will only solidify our presence at the top for many years to come. Our program is here to develop these riders and rather than every year having a huge turnover of personnel we can continue to groom riders from within and gain more consistency in this manner”

It is Canada’s largest sponsorship in the sport of cycling which includes a development team, women’s team, men’s professional team and the Cyclist for Charity program.
