May 25, 2004 – Well it has been an action packed few weeks since my last update. If you have been keeping your eye on our website you are probably aware that we have had some exciting new additions to the team and a solid winning streak. I think the team has brought back some great fitness from their trip down south.
Here is a list of our top stories in chronological order:
May 9 – Cam Evans wins Columbia Plateau Stage Race in Oregon winning 2 out of the 4 stages.
May 10 – Symmetrics signs Svein Tuft. Tuft rode for Prime Alliance pro cycling for a number of years and brings some serious horse power to our team. Svein is a time trial specialists with multiple silver medals in the Canadian National Championship. He is looking for gold in 2004.
May 16 – Dylan Sebel wins Mutual of Enumclaw stage race. Some of the highlights in this race include Svein Tufts 2nd place finish in the opening 6 mile prologue TT where he and Kenny Williams broke the previous course record set back in 1998. This was Tuft’s first race back after a one year hiatus from cycling. The entire Symmetrics team rode the best criterium I have seen them ride to date. They dominated the race keeping the entire team at the front launching attacks, taking home several primes and 2 of the 3 podium spots. Marni Prazsky took home two 3rd places in the women’s crit and road race and placed 8th in the GC. Check out our race report.
May 22 – Cam Evans and Marsh Cooper take 1st and 2nd at the Washington State Road Championship. Well sort of….both ride for Symmetrics and are from BC, Canada so they couldn’t claim the actual title. However, they were able to keep our neighbours in Washington on their toes. Both set a ripping pace on the final climb to take 1st and 2nd in a group sprint of 3 leading the peloton by more than 1 minute. Third place Troy Critchlow became the Washington State Champion.
May 23 – Svein Tuft wins Ken Meyer Memorial Time Trial. Tuft covered 29.4 km (18 miles) in 37:21 averaging 46.3 km/h (28.6 mph). Tuft’s time broke the course record on an difficult course. Ouch!
What’s next?
The team will be racing locally this weekend at the third round of the SISU BC Cup series followed by the BC Road Race Championships in Victoria, BC on June 5, 2004.
