Subway BMX Youth Series – Atlantic Champions Crowned

release by Subway Youth BMX Series

October 20, 2009 (Dieppe, NB) – Some nice battles marked the 2009 Subway Youth BMX Series. Saturday marrked the conclusion of the second complete season at the Subway BMX track, a facility located in Dieppe’s St-Anselme Rotary Park. The numbers kept on growing and we are on our way of building something great for Atlantic Canadian cycling once again.

For this Series, which also served to name the first Atlantic BMX Champions, we used some ability based categories to regroup these riders aged from 5 to 16 years of age. This way, the kids get to race with riders of their same level and greatly increase there chances to progress.

In the D group, the podium was separated by only 100 points at the conclusion of the 6 events. Sarah Martini took the top spot, followed by Olivier Aucoin and Leila Cartier. Sarah showed a lot of progression through the summer and actually moved up to the C group for the last event and actually finishing second in the race.

In the C group, we saw Nicolas Cormier collecting the maximum 600 points. Maxime Cormier (540 points) and Julien Cormier (440 points) completed the podium. Meanwhile, Vincent Cormier became to B group Atlantic Champion, followed by Odette Comeau and Alex Maltais.

In the fastest group, Ben Green came on top by collecting 590 points throughout the summer. He was followed by Neil Symington and Julien Roussel. A special mention goes to Luc Comeau, a young 10 year old who raced in this fast group with riders more then 6 years older then him.

Now that the racing and training at the Subway BMX track has concluded for the 2009 season, activities will keep on buzzing around the facility this fall. The City of Dieppe just approved a budget for some important renovations. It will improve drainage, completely lift the second stretch and lift the final corner. To progress with the development of the cyclists, we will also improve some jumps to get them closer and closer to international standards.

The National Cycling Centre – Atlantic Canada would like to congratulate all the initial Atlantic BMX champions and all those who participated. We would also like to thank the many volunteers, namely our BMX expert, Mike LeBlanc who is greatly marking the come back of BMX racing in Atlantic Canada. Special thanks as well to our major sponsor and supporter, Subway.

Hope to see you, and your friends in 2010!
