August 11, 2008 – Spain’s women road cyclist Maria Isabel Moreno’s (Esp) EPO positive test marks the first doping infraction of the Beijing Olympics, reports CBC Sports. Moreno has been subsequently stripped of her accreditation and will not be allowed to compete in the Games.

Moreno did not start the women’s road race yesterday, citing personal reasons. She was tested on July 31 before the Olympic Games began, and left China soon after. The positive result was officially announced today. Moreno was registered to compete in both the road race and the time trial.
